THE BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL  April 14 - 20, 2022

Thursday, April 14, is the Opening Night for the 20th Anniversary of the Boston International Film Festival.

The Red Carpet Event begins at 4:00 pm at the W- Hotel located at 100 Stuart Street, Boston MA 02216. The festival staff will be on hand to greet the participants as they walk down the red carpet. Photographers will be available to take pictures, and representatives of the press will be holding interviews.

Our opening night feature presentation is The Walk, starring Justin Chatwin, Jeremy Piven, Malcolm McDowell and Terrence Howard, directed by Daniel Adams a fact-based biopic centered upon Boston’s ‘Busing Crisis’ of 1974. An Irish Boston cop is assigned to protect Black students attending all-White South Boston High School. Surrounded by turmoil on all sides, he somewhat reluctantly discovers much about the student’s culture (as well as realizing the fallacy of his own beliefs). This thought-provoking cinematic experience will bring the viewer back to earliest days of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Other highlights of the festival include;

"The Way To Happiness" from Luxembourg is a brilliant story of resilience, and redemption that is clearly ripped from today’s headlines. A man whose childhood was decimated by war finds himself forced to come to terms with his painful history; only to learn that the past is truly with us forever. This love story for the ages will warm viewers hearts.

"Imagining The Indian" is a documentary based in the European settlers treatment of indigenous Americans (and how stereotypes are still pervasive more than 600 years after Christopher Columbus first arrived in North America). A brilliant film, one that focuses upon how the Native American population is still being culturally subjugated to this day.

"Jai Bhim" from India is an Indian-Tamil language film based upon true events. This legal drama focuses upon social prejudices in 1990’s India, and how the concept of ‘Justice for All’ is something that must be constantly fought for. This brilliant (and timeless) tale illustrates how love truly can conquer all.

"Mixtape" from Puerto Rico is set in the 90s, and paying homage to the 80s. In 1999, and on the verge of the oncoming new millennium, an adolescent who was orphaned by a tragic automobile accident discovers a ‘mixtape’ made by her parents. Although she comes to learn much about the parents she never really knew, she learns more about herself. A wonderful, heartwarming film about love, devotion, and music.

"The Wake-Up Call" is a documentary that featured Dave Evans, who was a renowned prosthetics, humanitarian and peace activist. A double amputee himself, he dedicated his post- military career to transforming lives shattered by these seemingly never-ending, interchangeable wars. From Syrian refugees in a prosthetics clinic in Amman, Jordan, to the fallout of war in places like Iraq, Dave chose a life of service to others.

There will be a number of celebrities in attendance on the opening night red carpet, available for photographs and interviews. These will include our special guests director of the Opening Night film “THE WALK” Daniel Adams with many of the starring cast and many more.

The Opening Night Gala Party immediately follows the screening, beginning at around 8:30pm. Opening and Closing night Screening and Party passes are available for $75.00 for Opening Night and $45.00 for closing night. The price for an Individual Session Screening is $15.00 All Screening Pass, which allows entry into all of the 24 screening sessions, costs $125.00 and an All Access VIP Pass for $250.00 that give entry to all events at BIFF. A limited number of press passes are available.

The Boston International Film Festival is a celebration of the art of filmmaking. It encourages and supports independent filmmakers from around the world, bringing to Boston a dazzling array of both short and feature length films from a select group of directors. The festival strives to promote understanding of diverse cultures by displaying the passions and unique visions of these filmmakers, and promises to both entertain and educate the viewers.

This year we will be screening around 70 short and feature films from 30 countries. Highlights of the festival include Opening and Closing night Gala Parties, Red Carpet events, and special parties for individual films. The winners of this year’s awards are announced at the Closing Party on Monday April 18, 2022

Tickets will soon be available for purchase, either on our website, or at the Theatres. For more information on ticket sales and schedules, please visit our website www.bifilmfestival.com

We look forward to seeing you at the festival.

BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

For Immediate Release

Contact: Mark Cripps / Public Relations

info@bifilmfestival.com

In the year 2002 the Boston International Film Festival began presenting works by ‘up & coming’ filmmakers from across the globe.

In the past eighteen (18) years we have gone from presenting a few grouping’s of films in sessions to over 100 films and becoming one of the most highly recognized festivals in the world.

At a time that the staff of the festival should be furiously preparing for what promises to be our best festival to date, we are announcing that the event (previously slated for April 16th-April 21st) has been cancelled in response to the pandemic that is currently dominating our daily lives.

It would be highly impractical for the festival to set a date for the 2020 schedule of presentations at this time due to the uncertainty of this unprecedented state of affairs. Due to the rapidly evolving nature that this pandemic (COVID-19) has caused, we do not currently have an estimate of when that will be.

In the meantime we are working upon regrouping, meeting with new venues, and further determining how best to go forward with future festivals (including the potential of exploring the use of advancements in entertainment technology).

While it is with mixed emotions that we are being proactive in attempting to safeguard the health and welfare of our patrons, we look forward to seeing you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.
